Today is a special day.
To celebrate, I had the privilege of interviewing the Mumma In Heels herself, Melinda…
First off, tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m 22 year old Virgo, engaged to the love of my life and a mother to our two beautiful boys. I love shoes, lattes and celebrity gossip and am half way through my Communications/PR degree.
Describe yourself in 5 words.
This was tough! But I would have to say.. Maternal, Romantic, Bubbly, a Dreamer and a Perfectionist.
How do you relax and unwind?
Bubble baths! Usually accompanied with a book and a glass of champagne (or tea).
How did you first get into social media? What forms of social media do you use?
I can’t really remember! I think I started with Twitter and it just snowballed from there. I mostly use Twitter and Pinterest, I’m not much of a Facebook fan!
What inspired you to start your blog, Mumma In Heels?
I read lots of blogs which are either beauty, fashion or ‘mummy’ blogs. I love writing and I wanted to start a blog where I could talk about all the things I love (like Fashion, Beauty and Motherhood). When I first started, a lot of people liked that I didn’t just fit in one category too so Mumma In Heels has just stuck to being a bag of mixed lollies!
How do you come up with blog post ideas?
I do most of my thinking in the shower. Or on Pinterest. Most of my ideas stem from something I have read or seen, something I’ve bought or a product I have been loving. I have had the odd ‘bloggers block’ since starting Mumma In Heels but most of the time, I have too many ideas and not enough time! Something I started doing early on was writing my ideas as they came so I always had ‘back up’ if I needed some inspiration.
How have you managed to build up such a strong following and working relationships, eg with PR firms?
While Mumma In Heels is a hobby, I do take it seriously when working with brands and PR. I have formed some great relationships because of my ‘work’ ethic which is something I am really proud of.
How do you find the time to blog, study and be mumma to 2 gorgeous little boys under the age of 3?
It is a giant balancing act! Someday it gets hard, but I actually crave being busy. I write huge to do lists and just tackle one thing at a time. I usually blog one or two days a week and schedule the posts to go live the following week and squeeze in uni whenever I can. I love uni and blogging, but my main priority is the boys. I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mum – if I had to throw work in as well, I don’t think I could manage!
Where do you see yourself and Mumma In Heels in another year’s time?
Hopefully celebrating my second birthday! But possibly slowing down to 2-3 posts a week. Next year is my final year of uni plus I want to focus a bit more attention on Shop Me Chic. I don’t think I could ever give up Mumma In Heels though, I enjoy writing too much!
How are you celebrating Mumma In Heels’ 1st Birthday?
I have been a bad blog mother! My 1st Birthday almost slipped by without a mention. But if you stay tuned, we might have a belated blog birthday party and giveaway coming up!
